First Roll and Mow of 2015

Today at Stillmeadow Country Club the greens have finally dried out enough that we were able to roll and mow them.  You may remember from previous years that this is one of the few times that we will actually roll the greens prior to mowing them.  Typically it is the reverse procedure.  Prior to this first mowing the greens will have subtle imperfections that need to be smoothed out.  These imperfections are usually caused by natural freezing and thawing that occurs during the winter.  It can also be caused by foot printing that occurs when play combines with soft conditions.  Rolling first will smooth the greens out and allow for a better and cleaner cut at mowing heights as low as 1/8 of an inch.  We will begin to mow other areas on the course such as tees and fairways as soon as rutting becomes less of a concern.  Otherwise, we will continue with our general items associated with spring cleanup.
